Major League Lacrosse To Expand in 2012

BOSTON, MA – January 21, 2011 – Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, today announced that two new teams will be added to the league in the 2012 season. The two new teams will be located in Charlotte, North Carolina and Columbus, Ohio.

In addition, MLL Commissioner David Gross announced that beginning in 2012 each of the league’s teams will be playing a 14 game schedule, an increase from the current 12 game schedule.

Major League Lacrosse (MLL) was founded by Jake Steinfeld and is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. Major League Lacrosse commenced play in June of 2001 and is comprised of six teams located in Boston, Chesapeake, Denver, Hamilton, Long Island and Rochester.

Major League Lacrosse’s 2011 All Star Game will take place on July 9 at Harvard Stadium in Boston. The 2011 MLL Championship Weekend, presented by Warrior, is scheduled for August 27 & 28 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, MD.
