Merrill and Rubeor earn Player of the Week honors

BOSTON – Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced the weekly award winners for Week Two of the 2013 season, which concluded on May 5. The winners are chosen every week by MLL Commissioner David Gross and are based on outstanding in-game achievements. The Warrior Offensive Player of the Week went to Chesapeake’s own Ben Rubeor, while Hamilton National Brodie Merrill stole the Warrior Defensive Player of the Week.

Rubeor carried the defending MLL Champion Bayhawks to a 9-3 win over the New York Lizards Saturday night, improving the teams’ record to 2-0. The attackman scored seven of Chesapeake’s nine goals on the evening, showcasing his career-high talents in a plethora of ways. Registering a stellar .64 shooting percentage, the sixth-year veteran also extended his point streak to 31 straight games. Earning Player of the Game for his performance, Rubeor also managed to scoop two ground balls in the win. Rubeor joins teammate Kyle Dixon, as Chesapeake receives Warrior Offensive Player of the Week accolades for the second week in a row. Catch the Bayhawks at home this Saturday, May 11, at 7:00 PM (ET) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis MD, as they take on the Ohio Machine.

Merrill anchored the Hamilton Nationals defensive unit in a convincing 15-8 win over the Boston Cannons, to open their 2013 season. The Orangeville, Ontario native gathered seven ground balls, and added a first-quarter assist to Kevin Ross during an eight-point National run. Merrill helped hold Boston scoreless for nearly 20 minutes in the first half, aiding in a 9-3 halftime lead. Hamilton begins their season 1-0, and will look to continue their success at home this Saturday, May 11, at 7:00 PM (ET). This game will be broadcast live on YouTube, as the Nationals take on the New York Lizards for our MLL matchup of the week.
