BOSTON (Feb. 20, 2014)– Major League Lacrosse, the premier outdoor lacrosse league, announced today that it has partnered with New York Lizards’ Greg Gurenlian’s The Faceoff Academy.
As an official partner of the MLL, both organizations hope to grow the sport of lacrosse, as well as draw attention to the importance of specialized positions.
To do so, MLL will produce a season-long weekly feature titled “At the X; presented by The Faceoff Academy.” Each post will recap how the individual faceoff specialists in the League fared over the weekend and rank them throughout the 2014 season, culminating with the specialist who has the highest winning percentage being crowned as the season champion.
“We are very pleased to partner with Faceoff Academy,” said MLL Commissioner David Gross. “Greg, Jerry and Chris do tremendous work in promoting the sport and with the new feature on the MLL website we will bring attention to an often overlooked, yet important position in the game.”
The Faceoff Academy is dedicated to developing elite athletes that are unchallenged on the draw, well-rounded on the field, and of the highest character.
Gurenlian and his team of fellow Major Leaguers Chris Mattes of the Florida Launch and Jerry Ragonese of the New York Lizards take pride in working with lacrosse players of all ages, helping them excel both on the field and off the field through a series of camps, events, and clinics all over the United States.
“Jerry, Chris and I are extremely pumped to finally be teaming up with Major League Lacrosse. As Major League Lacrosse players who play at the highest level we take a lot of pride in teaching the Faceoff position at the highest level as well. By working with the MLL we can reach more players and coaches than ever before and provide them with world class instruction. This is also a great opportunity for us as MLL players to spend more time with our fan base which has given us so much over the years.”
