POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Monmouth University freshman Bryce Wasserman (Southlake, Texas/Grapevine Faith) scored a pair of goals, but the Hawks dropped its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest of the season, 10-3, at Marist at Tenney Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Wasserman, who now holds the team-lead with eight goals on the year, was joined on the scoreboard by sophomore Chris Daly (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion).

After a scoreless first period, the Red Foxes (4-2, 1-0 MAAC) notched three goals in the second quarter to hold a 3-0 lead at the intermission, and Marist increased its lead to 8-0 by the end of the third stanza.

The Hawks broke the shutout on Daly’s unassisted tally, his second of the season, with 10:42 left in the contest. Just over four minutes later, senior Zach Johannes (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) registered his first assist of the campaign, and the fourth of his career, as the midfielder found Wasserman for a score at 6:41.

Following a Marist goal, Wasserman hit the net for a second time with 2:19 remaining to make the score 9-3, before the Red Foxes notched a final goal with 11 seconds left for the final tally.

Marist outshot Monmouth 40-28 in the game, as senior goalkeeper Garrett Conaway (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) made 13 saves in cage for the Hawks, his fourth game this season with double-digit saves.

Monmouth (2-3, 0-1 MAAC) returns to action on Tuesday, when the Hawks travel to Newark, New Jersey to take on NJIT at Lubetkin Field at 7:00 p.m. in non-conference action.
