North Carolina’s Galasso Undergoes Foot Surgery

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — University of North Carolina sophomore All-America attackman Nicky Galasso underwent surgery to repair a fracture in his left foot last Friday and will be sidelined for approximately two months, UNC head coach Joe Breschi and men’s lacrosse athletic trainer Nina Walker announced Tuesday.

Galasso fractured his left foot during a conditioning drill on Monday, November 14 and underwent surgery to correct the problem on Friday, November 18. Doctors and athletic trainers expect Galasso to be sidelined approximately two months. It is estimated he could return to the practice field by late January or early February.

“We hate this for Nicky,” said Breschi. “But our medical staff was very proactive on this and we expect he will be able to make a full recovery and be back practicing with us by around February 1. After the tremendous impact he had on our 2011 team as a freshman, we are looking forward to him getting back on the field being a key element of our 2012 lacrosse team. At this time his health and his healing process is our No. 1 concern.”
