Scout & Spunkwear Announce Partnership To Co-Develop & Market Product Lines

GEORGETOWN, WASHINGTON DC, MAY 30, 2013…SCOUT by Bungalow (www.bungalowco.com), a leading supplier of fashion and lifestyle bags, bins, insulated totes and travel accessories has partnered with Spunkwear (www.spunkwear.com), a Maryland-based apparel company well-known for its popular line of spandex sportswear, to develop a co-branded product collection that targets the burgeoning girls’ lacrosse market.

The first SCOUT/Spunkwear collection will feature two original Spunkwear patterns, the Maryland Flag and the Blue Crab, manufactured by SCOUT on seven signature SCOUT tote bags and coolers, including its best-selling Original Deano tote. These popular Maryland-inspired designs are currently available on Spunkwear compression shorts, lax pinnies, dresses and other items. This exclusive co-branded collection will be sold direct to consumers by Spunkwear through their 100+ retail “pop-up stores” at lacrosse tournaments, competitions and special events. It will also be available online at www.spunkwear.com.

The launch of the new partnership will take place in June at the Top of the Bay girls’ lacrosse series in Bel Air, MD, where SCOUT and Spunkwear will display and sell their vibrantly-colored new summer products together for the first time. Spunkwear is the official retail sponsor for the Top of the Bay summer tournament series.

The new partnership leverages many synergies between the two Mid-Atlantic companies, including a shared vision for supporting the active lifestyles of female athletes young and old, a commitment to providing colorful and fashionable product alternatives to a utilitarian-dominated sportswear and gear bag market, and a common desire to help promote fitness and healthy competition for young women through organized sports and events.

“When SCOUT sought a partner to help expand into the girls’ lacrosse market, Spunkwear was the only company we entertained. They have an incredible following with the players, who at any given time probably have 1-2 colorful Spunkwear items in their gear bag”, says Ben Johns, President and Co-Owner of SCOUT. “This partnership is an excellent match for many reasons, not the least of which is the combined potential we’ve created to bring fresh and exciting products to market for seasons to come.”

“This new partnership with SCOUT is such a natural fit,” says Sheilah Ruppert, Founder of Spunkwear. “We have watched the brand for years, seeing the product line grow not only in scope and selection, but also in popularity, particularly with our customer demographic. The vibrancy, durability and style of SCOUT totes and gear bags complement us and our line so well, and we look forward to playing off our collective strengths to further distinguish and develop our brands and products in the marketplace.”
