Southwestern Lacrosse Announces 2012 Schedule

After going 7-8 in 2011 and reaching the conference Semi Finals in the inaugural SCAC Championship last year, Southwestern is looking forward to the upcoming 2012 season. The Pirates are looking to build on its stellar performance in the game, one of its best of the year. Following are links to two stories on the conference tourney:

The Pirates will take the field 15 times in 2012, of which 11 will be played at home. Once again the Pirates have bolstered their schedule with home games against Goucher (MD) on February 18th, Whittier (CA) on March 2nd. and Merchant Marine Academy on March 6th (NY).

Thanks to a generous donation, four games will be under the lights in 2012. Southwestern will play its first game under the lights on Friday, March 2nd when it hosts Whittier (CA) at 7p.m. Three more games will be under the lights in 2012 as the Pirates will host Trine (IN) on Friday, March 9th, Concordia (WI) on Monday, March 19th, and Rhodes College (TN) on Friday, March 30th in Southwestern’s first ever night conference game.

Conference games hosted by Southwestern will include Birmingham Southern College (AL) on Friday, March 23rd, Oglethorpe (GA) on Sunday, March 25th, Rhodes (TN) on March 30th, Millsaps (MS) on April 1st, and Dallas on Sunday, April 15th to end the regular season.

Southwestern takes to the road in early April for its only away games as it travels to Colorado College (CO) in a rematch of last year’s SCAC Semi Final game, and Hendrix (AR), one of our most heated rivalries over the past few years in what will be the final time these two teams meet as Hendrix is leaving the Conference at the end of this year. The following weekend, Southwestern takes its final trip as it heads out to play Centre (KY), and Sewanee (TN). All four games are key conference games that will go a long way to determining playoff eligibility.

The Pirates will be supporting worthy causes in two of its games this year, as the home game under the lights against conference opponent Rhodes will be a “Pink Out” game to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. In our final game of the regular season, Southwestern hosts Dallas in our first Annual “Green Out” game in support of the HEADstrong Foundation.
