2013 Colgate Lacrosse Player Blog: Nothing Like Home Cooking

By Lacrosse Playground | March 11, 2013 |
The boys were excited to get back to the practice field and begin preparing for Hobart, as practice was upbeat and filled with energy. Laughter filled the air on Andy Kerr Stadium, as any signs from the loss on Saturday seemed to have vanished. Monday called for a usual pregame practice, with Senior Matt Baker breaking the team down before we headed in from practice. Matt did a good job putting the Cornell game behind us, and getting us pumped up to play the “Hobartians.” Read More...

2013 Colgate Lacrosse Player Blog: Top Ten Showdown in Ithaca

By Lacrosse Playground | March 4, 2013 |
The usual suspects such as Peter Baum and Ryan Walsh were interviewed before practice, but I guess my words of wisdom from the blog have made waves, as #19 got the chance to speak in front of the cameras. The fame was short lived as we had to reshift our focus on finishing off a solid week of practice. Friday we finished the workweek with our normal pregame practice, capped by #15 breaking down the team, following chants of “Tewey” from his teammates. Read More...

2013 Colgate Lacrosse Player Blog: Keeping the Train Rolling

By Lacrosse Playground | February 25, 2013 |
Wakeup calls were at 9 o’clock with a 9:30 breakfast before the 1 P.M. game. Scouting repots were handed in and we loaded the bus en route to the Dartmouth campus. After situating ourselves in the small visitor’s team locker room we geared up and got ready for the game. As I have been alluding to throughout the blog, once we came out for our second and final warm up the snow began to fall. It seemed to pick up as the game progressed, lightening up a little towards the end of the game. Here it was, same opponent, same weather conditions, and a chance for us to prove that we are the better team. Read More...

2013 Colgate Lacrosse Player Blog: Unfinished Business in Burlington

By Lacrosse Playground | February 19, 2013 |
After the Sunday victory over Bryant, we were fortunate (or NCAA mandated) to receive a day off on Monday from lacrosse activities. The break gave some players a chance to rest and recoup after the tough overtime victory, while other guys used the time to lift and get in extra skill work. The day off was short lived as an 11:30 film session came quickly on Tuesday. Read More...

Colgate Lacrosse 2013 Player Blog: Bryant for #1

By Lacrosse Playground | February 12, 2013 |
With poor road conditions following the storm, the trip to Bryant was a long one as it spanned a little under 6 hours. We continued back-to-back solid movie performances, with the playing of Ted and The Bourne Legacy. Some of the older guys were keeping entertained by playing Pokémon in the back of the bus, but for their sake I will keep those names confidential. Read More...

Colgate Lacrosse 2013 Player Blog: Final Tune Up – Albany Scrimmage

By Lacrosse Playground | February 4, 2013 |
Last year we were grateful to have a great senior class that kept our energy level high at all times, spearheaded by “DJ” Jason Coppersmith. Our game day energy level was phenomenal a year ago, but as the old sports adage goes, “you practice how you play” and in order to keep up that energy level this season it needs to start in practice. Colgate Lacrosse 2013 Player Blog: Training Camp and Delaware Week

By Lacrosse Playground | January 28, 2013 |
“Greatness is upon you… You better act like it.” That was the quote on the back of our practice shirts in every player’s locker before the beginning of training camp. After a tremendous season last year, the 2013 Colgate Raiders have a lot to prove and build upon. Making the quarterfinals of the 2012 NCAA tournament puts a bullseye on our backs. Read More...

Colgate Men’s Lacrosse 2012 Player Blog: We Made History

By Lacrosse Playground | May 22, 2012 |
Obviously a team never wants their season to end on a loss, but when looking back...what a ride. At the end of last season, the senior class knew we’d have a talented squad to lead this year, and understood how strong leadership combined with a cohesive group make for a great team. It would be our job to do just that. With about a month left in summer, the news was announced that Coach Murphy was hired as our new coach. He made sure to call every player, and discuss the coming year. When talking to each senior, Coach Murphy made clear his main goal for his inaugural season: make it the senior’s best one yet. Colgate Men’s Lacrosse 2012 Player Blog: Go to the Final Four

By Lacrosse Playground | May 17, 2012 |
Now standing in our way is a very strong Duke team. They are solid in every facet of the game, but so are we. The trust and belief in one another on this team rivals any, and we plan to work as hard as ever for this game. It will not be easy, but we understand that. So following the graduation of our senior class in our hotel Saturday night (yes, we’re doing that), the opening face-off will be sometime around 2:30 on Sunday at PPL Park. It will come down to the team that takes care of the little things best, and the team that executes at the highest level. We aim to be that team and are working to make Sunday the best day ever.
