St. Mark’s Lions Advances To THSLL Division I Championship Game

In THSLL semi-final play in Georgetown, TX today, the North District #2 seed St. Mark’s Lions relied upon suffocating defensive pressure in tandem with poise in the offensive zone to eliminate South District #1 seed Houston Christian High School by a 10-3 score. Lions’ junior attackman Andrew Graffy led all scorers with 2 goals and 2 assists, and St. Mark’s senior middie Nick Mahowald controlled play at the X with 6 GBs and scored a season-high two goals in support of the win. The Lions (17-3) now advance to the THSLL Division 1 State Championship Game on Sunday against District #4 seed Highland Park (11-7), who upset heavily favored and #1 ranked Dallas Jesuit earlier today by a 5-4 score in the other semi-final match-up. St. Mark’s Will Perkins Scores 11 Goals In Super Regional Weekend Play

In the THSLL Division I quarter-finals on Sunday, Senior attack Will Perkins scored a career-high seven goals to carry the North District #2 seed St. Mark’s to a 10-8 victory over Central District #1 seed Westlake. Last year, the Chaps (12-5) were also eliminated by St. Mark’s in the quarterfinal round of the state playoffs. The Lions (16-3) now advance to a semi-final match-up against South District #1 seed Houston Christian High School (16-3), who will be eagerly anticipating its first Division I semi-final game and first ever match-up between these two squads. St. Mark’s has now progressed to a Texas Final Four berth in five out of the last six years, but are still looking for their first THSLL state championship trophy. Read More...

Texas High School Lacrosse Playoffs, Division I Matchups and Previews

The Texas High School Lacrosse Super Regional Matchups have been determined and the top 4 teams from each division (North Division, South Division, and Central Division) will face-off against each other this weekend in a battle to determine which 4 teams will move on and compete for the State Championship next weekend. Dallas Jesuit, Austin High, Houston Christian, and Westlake all earned themselves first-round byes in this weekend’s Super Regionals based on their play throughout the regular season. They await the outcome of Saturday’s 4 matchup games to see which team they will face on Sunday in the games that will determine which teams advance to next weekend’s Championships. Read More...

Highland Park Upsets Episcopal School of Dallas in OT

For the second time in 2012, Highland Park traveled north to the Episcopal School of Dallas. Also for the second time in 2012, the Scots were unable to hold a fourth quarter lead. The first meeting ended 11-10 in favor of the Eagles. This time, however, in a must-win game, the Highland Park defense was able to force overtime with the score tied at seven. Once they did, one offensive possession was all the Scots needed to secure a playoff spot in the hunt for the State Championship while simultaneously ending ESD’s season. Read More...

Two things came to an end Thursday night: St. Mark’s bid for a perfect in-state record in 2012, and Jesuit coach Chris Surran’s career winless streak against coach Hayward Lee’s Lions. One thing that remains alive and well, however, is the potential for a playoff rematch between the North District’s two strongest teams.
