Colgate Men’s Lacrosse 2012 Player Blog: We Made History

By Lacrosse Playground | May 22, 2012 |
Obviously a team never wants their season to end on a loss, but when looking back...what a ride. At the end of last season, the senior class knew we’d have a talented squad to lead this year, and understood how strong leadership combined with a cohesive group make for a great team. It would be our job to do just that. With about a month left in summer, the news was announced that Coach Murphy was hired as our new coach. He made sure to call every player, and discuss the coming year. When talking to each senior, Coach Murphy made clear his main goal for his inaugural season: make it the senior’s best one yet. Colgate Men’s Lacrosse 2012 Player Blog: Go to the Final Four

Now standing in our way is a very strong Duke team. They are solid in every facet of the game, but so are we. The trust and belief in one another on this team rivals any, and we plan to work as hard as ever for this game. It will not be easy, but we understand that. So following the graduation of our senior class in our hotel Saturday night (yes, we’re doing that), the opening face-off will be sometime around 2:30 on Sunday at PPL Park. It will come down to the team that takes care of the little things best, and the team that executes at the highest level. We aim to be that team and are working to make Sunday the best day ever. Colgate Men’s Lacrosse 2012 Player Blog: The Terps Are Coming

By Lacrosse Playground | May 4, 2012 |
The Terps are coming to town on Saturday. It’s our senior day, the school’s springcoming, and the weather is supposed to cooperate. What better way could we as seniors ask to end our home careers other than beating Maryland at home and setting ourselves up for an at-large bid in the NCAA tournament. Of course we know it’s going to be a tough game coming at the end of the last week of classes, but who cares? Come Saturday the only thing that will matter is that all 47 guys on the roster go out to Andy Kerr and leave it all on the field. I can think of no better way to end my career here at Colgate than with this group of guys going up against an ACC powerhouse. Read More...

Colgate Men’s Lacrosse 2012 Player Blog: Who Needs Avicii When We Get to See Baumvicii

By Lacrosse Playground | April 25, 2012 |
Going into the fourth quarter it was tied 6-6. Coach’s message to us in the huddle was, “win this minute, then the next one, and the one after that until there are zeros on the clock!” Because of Rob Grabher’s performance at the X during the second and third quarters, Bucknell came out with three poles on the face-offs and it turned into a hard-fought battle each time. After coming off a big Lehigh win, we couldn’t let ourselves get complacent for Lafayette. Coach reminded us consistently throughout the week how he doesn’t care about their record, but about the fact that if we win this game, we’re in the Patriot League Tournament. Read More...

Colgate Men’s Lacrosse 2012 Player Blog: American Reunion

By Lacrosse Playground | April 11, 2012 |
When "Danza Kuduro" came on in the locker room yesterday around 4 pm, it was one of the best feelings any of us have had so far this season. We had just knocked off the #7 team in the country, and taken down the #1 defense. It didn’t stem from just showing up on Saturday, but from all the hard work we put in during the week leading up to it. Read More...

Colgate Men’s Lacrosse 2012 Player Blog: “Call Me Maybe” Flu Hits the Team

By Lacrosse Playground | March 27, 2012 |
Legacy is a word that has been repeated a lot to us this season by Coach Murphy, mainly to the senior class. He has asked us on multiple occasions, “Seniors, what kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?” Coming off a strong Fairfield win, Navy would be a game that would add to that legacy. We just didn’t know in what way at the time. Read More...

Coming off a great Patriot League win against Holy Cross, our sights were immediately set on Binghamton to continue a strong spring break. They’re a team we hadn’t beaten in two years, and always proved to be a tough adversary. We practiced on Sunday a bit to go through our fundamentals along with an intro to Binghamton’s offense. Following the practice we went back to the locker room to go over the scouting reports. Read More...

Colgate Men’s Lacrosse 2012 Player Blog: Better Ingredients, Better Pizza

Right after we changed out of our wet clothes, we got into our jackets and ties for the bus ride to Worcester, MA. The movie chosen for the bus was The Departed, which starts with the song, “I’m Shipping Up to Boston.” Another fun fact about it is that it unofficially stars former team member Frank Coughlin as cop/not cop William Costigan. Then, upon arriving at our hotel, we watched film and had some Papa John’s pizza ordered in. Read More...

You wouldn’t know the mood in the locker room just five minutes prior by watching the start of practice. Everyone was loud and excited to be out on the field. Tim Cashman, our lunch pail winner of the week, had another great practice alongside Pat Shanley. We focused on our system and our game throughout practice. Read More...

Following a strong performance from the team against Vermont, we came into the locker room on Monday ready to work. Kevin Gordon had just been awarded Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, the coaches announced that John Donnally and Rob Grabher were our players of the game in the win, and Aaron Darr was recognized with the lunch pail for his great job in the prior week of practice.
