Torcivia impresses in North-South All-Star Game

DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. – Recently graduated Lehigh women’s lacrosse standout Leigh Ann Torcivia impressed for the North in the annual IWLCA North-South Game played Saturday at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa. Torcivia had a pair of groundballs and caused turnovers, playing multiple positions for the North squad, which fell defeat 8-5. The four-time All-Patriot League honoree was Lehigh’s second participant in as many seasons after Lauren Dykstra earned Game MVP honors last year.

“It was such an honor to be nominated to play in the game,” said Torcivia. “To meet these girls and play with these experienced players was awesome. It was such a great experience.”

Torcivia played a combination of defense and attack, seeing significant action at both ends of the field before playing primarily defense in the latter stages. The Rumson, N.J. native was one of 36 seniors selected (18 aside), and one of just three from the Patriot League. North Carolina’s Laura Zimmerman earned MVP laurels this season, following Dykstra’s honor last year.

“It shows that Lehigh really has some good players that we can make it to a game like this [two straight years],” said Torcivia. “Our team is building each year.”

Torcivia tallied a groundball early in the first half off a shot that hit the post. She later caused a turnover on the South goalie behind a strong ride. Then in the second half, she broke up a pass in the midfield before scooping the groundball and heading the other way.

Torcivia is staying with the program, going to graduate school while working with the Lehigh coaching staff as Administrative Assistant.

“It’s awesome,” said Torcivia. “I love being on the coaching side now. It’s definitely a different perspective. I get to see a lot more of what Jill [Redfern] does and what I’d want to do if I was a coach. I’m excited to see how it goes.”
