Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic Embraces New Mobile Technology

Under Armour used RainedOut’s new “mobile opt-in” technology enabling people to sign up for tournament alerts from a standard cell phone.

LEESBURG, Va., July 15 /PRNewswire/ — Omnilert®, LLC, maker of RainedOut™, the first text message service for sports leagues and clubs, today announced that the Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic embraced new mobile technology during their national tournament on July 3rd and 4th. The tournament was the first to use RainedOut’s “mobile opt-in” technology that enabled fans, players, coaches and staff to register onsite for tournament alerts from a standard cell phone. Previously, subscribers needed a computer to register for alerts.

Corrigan Sports Enterprises, who managed the high profile event, also configured the alerts to simultaneously update the tournament’s Facebook Page and Twitter account. This allowed tournament officials to issue news from a single interface without the need to login to other social media sites. This saved them time and reduced any chance for discrepancies in news. This was also beneficial to those who had yet to opt-in to RainedOut, because they could still get the news from Facebook or Twitter.

Under Armour was the exclusive text message sponsor for the event, so fans, players, coaches and others could use the text message service free of charge.

“Using the RainedOut texting service was a big asset to our event,” Chris Tomlinson, Vice President of Marketing for Corrigan Sports Enterprises said. “The service allowed fans, players and coaches to stay on top of the action throughout the whole weekend of games. With five fields of games running from dawn to dusk, people could know what was happening just by checking their phones.”

“RainedOut text messaging updates really took the Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic to the next level and offered a service that I think will have everyone wanting it at every event they attend.”
