University of Tampa M. Lacrosse: Record Setting Day Powers Tampa Past Emmanuel

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans broke several program records en route to a 28-1 victory over the Emmanuel College Lions on Monday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Athletics and Intramural Complex.

Tampa improves to 5-1 on the season with the victory, while Emmanuel drops to 1-5.

Tampa broke several school records, including most goals in a game, most assist in a game and most points in a game. The 28 goals surpasses the previous total of 27 goals scored, which occurred on March of last year against Lees-McRae.

UT also added 19 assists on the day. The previous record was also set against Lees-McRae last season. In addition to the goals and assists, the Spartans also set the school record in points in a game with 47. They had previously recored 44 points in the matchup with Lees-McRae. They were also able to pick up 27 face-offs which ranks second in program history, which are two behind the school record set against Lees-McRae.

Tampa jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead just seven minutes into the game and dominated ever facet of the game. Emmanuel was able to score just after the Spartans fifth goal, but the UT defense would hold the Lions scoreless for the remainder of the game.

The attack would be very balanced, as 18 different players netted goals for UT.

Conor Whipple and Mike Morris led the way for Tampa as they each recorded five points. Whipple netted three goals and dished out two assists, while Morris scored two goals and recorded three assists. Jake Schmidt also contributed with three goals on the afternoon.

In between the pipes, A.J. Arnold records his third win on the season, while Thomas Brill recorded five saves.

Tampa will be in action again tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. as they welcome in Ithaca College.
