BALTIMORE, July 15, 2015 — US Lacrosse has announced the boys’ and girls’ lacrosse teams that will compete in the seventh annual US Lacrosse Under-15 National Championships July 24-26 at the River City Sportsplex in Richmond, Va.

Defending national champions Long Island Yellow Jackets (N.Y.) and 3d Select National (Colo.) return to highlight the girls’ 28-team field and the boys’ 18-team field, respectively. The 46 teams hail from 19 states, and they’ll bring nearly 1,400 players to participate in an event that features many of the best-run programs in US Lacrosse’s national U15 membership.

“We are looking forward to giving our participating teams and families from across the country a first-class tournament experience,” said Beth Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse.

Each national championship will begin with a day of pool play. After that, teams will be seeded for a single-elimination bracket to determine the national champion. Teams that reach the semifinals and that win the sportsmanship award will earn automatic invitations to the 2016 US Lacrosse National Championships.

Participating teams, selected via US Lacrosse Regional Championship qualifiers, 2014 U15 National Championship automatic returnees, and at-large bids:

“We are so excited to host these amazing athletes in the Richmond Region,” said Corey Peterson, director of sports development at Richmond Region Tourism. “The #RoadToRichmond contest has provided a fun way for the destination to ‘meet’ the players before the event and we can’t wait to meet them in person. It’s going to be an exciting few days.”

Players and coaches from the top three teams will receive medals. Lacrosse Magazine will name all-tournament teams. Admission to the event is free of charge.

Athlete’s Connection, STX and Gatorade are sponsors of the US Lacrosse U15 National Championship.

Lacrosse Playground

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
