Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse Hires Jeremy Hirsch as Assistant Coach

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse Head Coach Ray Rostan recently announced the hiring of Jeremy Hirsh as Assistant Lacrosse Coach. He replaces Steve Grossi who left to become an assistant at St. Joseph’s. Hirsch comes to Hampden-Sydney from Malvern Preparatory School in Philadelphia where he served as the Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator under Head Coach Dave Metzbower, the former long-time Princeton assistant coach.

Coach Hirsch is a 2010 graduate of Princeton University with a degree in history where he was a four-year defenseman for the Tigers. One of the top defenders on the squad his entire career, he missed only one game over four years and started all but one contest beginning his sophomore year. As a senior, Hirsch was Princeton’s only captain, Princeton’s first solo captain since 1980. He was awarded the Higgenbotham Trophy in 2010, awarded annually to the Tiger’s Most Valuable Player. Princeton shared the Ivy League regular season title in 2009 and 2010 and won the Ivy League Tournament in 2010.

Hirsch is also a Georegtown Preparatory School alumni. He was a three-year letter winner in both football and lacrosse, and Georgetown Prep was the #1 ranked high school lacrosse program in his senior season. He was named a high school All-American and participated in the Under Armour All-American game.

“I’m looking forward to working with Coach Hirsch. He is a young man of absolute character and played for some of the top coaches in our sport starting with highly successful Coach Kevin Giblin at Georgetown Prep,” stated Head Coach Ray Rostan. “Jeremy was recruited and coached by Princeton Head Coach Bill Tierney (now at Denver University), a coach with six national championships during his tenure at Princeton. In his senior year at Princeton, Jeremy played for another outstanding man in Head Coach Chris Bates. With Assistant Lacrosse Coach Jason Rostan at the offensive end of the field in his ninth year, and Coach Hirsch at the defensive end, we are excited to start a new year at Hampden-Sydney.”

“I’m tremendously grateful for the opportunity Coach Rostan has provided me to be a part of Hampden-Sydney College and its lacrosse team,” stated Coach Hirsch. “It’s an honor and privilege to join Coach Rostan’s staff at Hampden-Sydney with such a rich history of lacrosse excellence and passion for athletics. I look forward to working with Coach Rostan and Hampden-Sydney’s outstanding student-athletes.”
