Tampa Earns IWLCA Academic Award in Inaugural Season

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has recognized the University of Tampa as one of its Honor Squads for the 2014 season.

UT is one of 45 schools earning IWLCA Division II Academic Honor Squad honors for the 2014 season. Every school with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher earned Academic Squad honors. Read More…

Tampa Men’s Lacrosse Takes Three Major SSC Awards

WINTER PARK, Fla. – On Tuesday, the Sunshine State Conference announced its 2014 Inaugural All-SSC Men’s Lacrosse Team. Tampa’s Conor Whipple was selected Player of the Year and Jake Rooney was named Co-Newcomer of the Year. Florida Southern’s Grant VanOverbeke was also named Co-Newcomer of the Year. University of Tampa Men’s Lacrosse Adds Chris Panos to Staff

Panos will replace Mike Ryder, who left Tampa to take a coaching position with the new and emerging lacrosse program at the IMG Academy. “The University of Tampa and our lacrosse program are very grateful for the contributions coach Ryder made in helping us get this program off the ground,” praised Whipple about his former assistant who spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Tampa. “Mike remains very closely tied to our program, our players and our staff, and we are very excited for the great opportunity that is presented for him at IMG.” Read More…

Tampa Picked to Win Inaugural SSC Men’s Lacrosse Title

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Six teams will take the field this spring for the inaugural season of men’s lacrosse in the Sunshine State Conference. The Tampa Spartans have been chosen as the preseason favorite to win the first-ever SSC Men’s Lacrosse regular-season title. In a poll conducted among the SSC head men’s lacrosse coaches, the Spartans tallied 25 points and received five of the six first-place votes. Tampa Announces First Women’s Lacrosse Schedule

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women’s lacrosse program has announced its schedule for the inaugural season, as announced by head coach Kelly Gallagher. The schedule includes four teams that were nationally ranked to end the 2013 season, including the nation’s No. 2 and 3 ranked squads. Griffo Wins Player of the Year; Spartans Place Nine on DSC All-Conference Team

WINGATE, N.C. – The University of Tampa men’s lacrosse team won its second straight Deep South Conference regular season title and Monday nine players were named to the DSC All-Conference Team.

For the second straight year, Greg Griffo was a first-team selection for the Spartans. Joey McMahan, Jasper Gantick, Eric Dance, Larry Gress, and Trevor Calleja were named second-team All-DSC, while Joseph Fiorucci, Kyle Hemrick, and Ryan Becker received honorable mention recognition. Read More…

Griffo Scores Late Goals to Lift Spartans Past Bears

HICKORY, N.C. – In a game with five lead changes and eight ties, Greg Griffo scored two goals in the final three minutes to give the University of Tampa men’s lacrosse team a 13-11 win over deep south conference opponent Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday afternoon at Moretz stadium. University of Tampa to Dedicate New 90,000 Square-Foot Field, Lacrosse Complex

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa will dedicate the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex on Kennedy Boulevard on Friday, April 5 at 7:25 p.m. The first men’s lacrosse game on the new field will follow immediately at 8 p.m., versus Rollins College. The dedication will begin with a ribbon cutting at the front of the stadium. UT President Ronald L. Vaughn and other campus and community leaders will speak. Then, at 7:45 p.m., special guests, including lead donor Vince Naimoli, will be recognized with a special on-field dedication.
