Griffo Wins Player of the Year; Spartans Place Nine on DSC All-Conference Team



WINGATE, N.C. – The University of Tampa men’s lacrosse team won its second straight Deep South Conference regular season title and Monday nine players were named to the DSC All-Conference Team.

For the second straight year, Greg Griffo was a first-team selection for the Spartans. Joey McMahan, Jasper Gantick, Eric Dance, Larry Gress, and Trevor Calleja were named second-team All-DSC, while Joseph Fiorucci, Kyle Hemrick, and Ryan Becker received honorable mention recognition. Read More…

Griffo Scores Late Goals to Lift Spartans Past Bears



HICKORY, N.C. – In a game with five lead changes and eight ties, Greg Griffo scored two goals in the final three minutes to give the University of Tampa men’s lacrosse team a 13-11 win over deep south conference opponent Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday afternoon at Moretz stadium. University of Tampa to Dedicate New 90,000 Square-Foot Field, Lacrosse Complex



TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa will dedicate the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex on Kennedy Boulevard on Friday, April 5 at 7:25 p.m. The first men’s lacrosse game on the new field will follow immediately at 8 p.m., versus Rollins College. The dedication will begin with a ribbon cutting at the front of the stadium. UT President Ronald L. Vaughn and other campus and community leaders will speak. Then, at 7:45 p.m., special guests, including lead donor Vince Naimoli, will be recognized with a special on-field dedication. Strong Defensive Efforts Leads Spartans to 9-8 win over Wheeling Jesuit Lacrosse

Lacrosse Player Finds Comfort in Hip-Hop



The men’s lacrosse team may be new to the University of Tampa, but their remarkable debut in 2012 leaves short stick defensive mid-fielder, Mike Tyrrell, rightfully hopeful for a phenomenal second season. Born and raised in Canada, Tyrrell had a huge impact on the relevance of lacrosse back in his hometown of Calgary, Alberta-noting that only “10-15 guys” before him ever pursued post-high school lax careers there. University of Tampa M. Lacrosse: Eric Dance Enjoying Decision to Play Lacrosse



Eric Dance was born into a football family and grew up playing the game. He did not begin his athletic career as a lacrosse player nor did he ever imagine himself playing lacrosse. Dance’s friend came down to Tampa from the northeast and showed him the ropes on the game. This change from football to lacrosse began early on in middle school and has been consistent ever since. “The second I started playing I got hooked. LAKELAND, Fla – The University of Tampa men’s lacrosse team scored five second quarter goals, including three in a 40 second span, while the Spartans defense held the Moccasins to two second half goals, en route to a 12-7 win over Florida Southern Friday night at Bryant Stadium. Sunshine State Conference Announces Plans to Sponsor Men’s Lacrosse Beginning in 2014



ORLANDO, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference (SSC) will begin sponsoring the sport of men’s lacrosse effective with the Spring 2014 season. The addition of lacrosse will increase the number of sports sponsored by the SSC to 17. The move was recently approved by the Sunshine State Conference Presidents Council. League bylaws require that half of the conference’s member institutions offer a particular sport before it may become a conference-sponsored sport. Read More…
