Three HPU Panthers Named to All-NLC Preseason Team


High Point University women’s lacrosse players Grace Gaeng, Sara Kuhlman and Courtney McLaughlin were named to the 2012 Preseason All-NLC team. Gaeng was named NLC Player of the Year last season.

A junior attacker, Gaeng led the National Lacrosse Conference with 78 points on 53 goals and 25 assists in 2011. She also had 27 draw controls (tops among HPU attackers) and 25 ground balls and was named NLC Attacker of the Year. Gaeng joined HPU after transferring from the University of Maryland.

Kuhlman is a sophomore midfielder who earned first-team All-NLC honors last season. She led High Point with 34 draw controls and also posted 29 goals, eight assists, 38 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers.

McLaughlin, a junior defender, had 40 ground balls, 20 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers in 19 games last season. She also scored twice. McLaughlin transferred to HPU from North Carolina.

The Panthers opened the 2012 season with an 11-10 win over Navy at Vert Stadium last Saturday. HPU is off until Feb. 22 when the team takes on Virginia Tech on the road at 4 p.m. in Blacksburg, Va. High Point University went 15-4 and won the National Lacrosse Conference championship in 2011.
