UVa has had at least one first round selection in each of the past seven drafts

BALTIMORE – Virginia senior midfielder Ryan Tucker was selected No. 4 overall in the 2015 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft by the Boston College. Tucker’s name was called from the podium Friday night inside the Holiday Ballroom at the Baltimore Hilton.

Also selected on Friday night was midfielder Tyler German. The Charlotte Hounds selected German (Centreville, Md.) in the fifth round with the 31st overall pick.

Tucker (Towson, Md.) gives UVa a first round selection in seven straight seasons and the Cavaliers’ 18 all-time first round selections in the MLL Draft are more than any school in the nation. Syracuse is No. 2 with 16.

Virginia now has 46 all-time selections in the MLL Draft, which trails only Syracuse (53) for most in the nation all-time. UVa has had at least one player drafted in 14 straight MLL Drafts after having no one taken in the very first collegiate draft in 2001.

“I am incredibly honored and thankful to be picked in the first round,” said Tucker. “It has always been a dream of mine to play in the MLL.”

Tucker will have the opportunity to play for his father, John, who is the head coach of the Boston Cannons.

“My dad has always been such a great mentor throughout my lacrosse career and has helped me in so many different ways. The last time he formally coached me was when I was a freshman in high school on Gilman’s junior varsity team and I can’t wait to suit back up for him after seven years.”

Tucker, one of UVa’s four 2015 captains, was named a preseason All-American (third-team) by Inside Lacrosse’s Face-Off Yearbook. Tucker scored 24 goals in 2014 and was an All-ACC Academic team honoree for the second year in a row.

German had a breakout season in 2014 scoring 12 goals and dishing out five assists running on the second midfield. The senior midfielder joins Tucker as one of UVa’s four captains. German has played in 34 career games for the Cavaliers, including all 16 games in 2014. German also had had some success at the faceoff X with a lifetime .500 win percentage (31-of-62).
