LXM Pro Athletes Matt Russell and Max Ritz join STX as Sponsored Athletes

Baltimore, MD — STX, LLC, a global sporting goods leader, announced today sponsorship deals with LXM Pro attackman Max Ritz and goalie Matt Russell.

Ritz and Russell join STX as the newest STX Sponsored Athletes and will be featured in the upcoming 2013 marketing campaign. Ritz will be the face of the STX Surgeon line; Russell will be the face of the STX Shield line.

“The style of play for each of these STX Team members is truly representative of our ideal Surgeon and Shield players,” said Greg Tate, Men’s Marketing Manager at STX. “It is a natural fit for Max and Matt to join STX to be the face of these product lines.”

Ritz is the youngest founding member of LXM Pro and is a Captain for Team STX. Before joining LXM Pro, Ritz was a four-year starter and two-time preseason All-American at the University of Maryland. Ritz also played on the ACC All-Tournament Team and was a Levitt Memorial Award Winner.

“STX is the first lacrosse brand I ever purchased, is the brand I wore for four years at the University of Maryland, and is a company that I’ve always admired,” said Ritz. “I’m thrilled to join Team STX, especially at such an exciting time for the company. They’ve revolutionized lacrosse technology year after year, and the products we will see over the next few months will push their reputation even further.”

“Lacrosse is a sport that mixes technology, speed, creativity, precision and culture,” Ritz added. “STX is unmatched in its ability to blend these characteristics into top-notch product lines, rather than dominate and force-feed inauthentic concepts.”

Russell was a three-time All-Patriot League, three-time All-American and the 2004 DI Goaltender of the Year at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he is one of their most decorated players. In 2006, Russell was drafted to the Baltimore Bayhawks where he played until he was traded to the L.A. Riptide. Russell joined the LXM Pro in 2011 and is currently a Captain for Team STX.

“As a goalie, I am particularly excited to be representing STX as we introduce the new goalie head — the Shield,” said goalie Matt Russell. “After using the Eclipse for over 10 years and trying every stick available, I am convinced the Shield is the best goalie head on the market. I have used the Shield in LXM Pro games in over 95 degree heat and had some of the hardest shooters in the game challenge the durability of the stick by throwing 100-plus m.p.h. shots off the plastic.”

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
