Elon Adds Division 1 Women’s Lacrosse

Elon, NC - Elon University’s Board of Trustees has approved the addition of women’s lacrosse as a varsity sport with competition to begin in the 2013-14 academic year. The women’s lacrosse program will be the 17th varsity sport and 10th women’s athletic program at Elon. A national search will begin immediately to identify a head coach, and the 2012-13 season will be utilized for recruiting, scheduling and player development. Bethlehem, PA - It’s a new Lehigh women’s lacrosse team in 2012. After having veteran squads throughout the past few seasons, the Mountain Hawks feature a powerful freshman class that is expected to make an impact in their first season with the team. BOULDER – For the first time in 16 years, the University of Colorado is adding a new sport – and from all indications, the fit will be as natural for Boulder as the Flatirons. Women’s lacrosse is joining CU’s athletic lineup, with competition scheduled to begin in the spring of 2014. The addition of women’s lacrosse will push CU’s number of sports to 17, a figure that includes women’s competition in basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, golf, skiing, cross country and track and field. Grievances and Theatrics in a Lacrosse Lawsuit

A women's lacrosse coach whose team participates in the New Canaan Lacrosse Association is sueing the league for gender discrimination. The beef of the lawsuit stems to violations of Title IX prohibition of sex discrimination in education. The women's team receives negative attention from the board, hand-me-down uniforms from the boys' team, fewer attention from referees (they don't show up), and more. Rutgers Women’s Lacrosse Supports the Children’s Tumor Foundation

(January 11, 2012) – The Rutgers women’s lacrosse program, which supports the Children’s Tumor Foundation and its adopted little sister Genna Camiolo, has planned a fundraising initiative, keeping in line with its continued commitment to serving the community.
